West Ardsley in Bloom is go

August 28, 2018by BethNo Comments

A group of like minded individuals met up at the Hare and Hounds on 21st August to get West Ardsley in Bloom going!

We were joined by Richard Gill from Leeds City Council who was there with advice and suggestions of how to get started and we were

Meeting to discuss West Ardsley in Bloom

also joined by our local elected councillors, Cllr Karen Renshaw and Cllr Ben Garner.

it was a lovely summers evening so we met in the pub garden and we felt quite inspired by the flower displays around us.

A small committee has been formed and we are firstly organsing a walk around the village to see where the in bloom boundaries are going to be located, we must be careful we do not over lap other in Bloom projects in our area, such as Lowry Road or Rein Road.

We are hoping that lots of people get involved, you dont have to be green fingered, together we are sure we can make West Ardsley a blooming fantastic place!

If you have any ideas of where needs some daffs planting or an area that needs sprucing upplease let us know

If you are a business or association who would like to be involved please do contact us by emailing   Inbloom@westardsley.co.uk

Free Uniform bank

August 10, 2018by BethNo Comments

A huge thank you to Marion and her number one helper Diane for arranging, gathering washing and setting up for the free uniform bank which was held on Thursday evening and Friday morning at Tingley Methodist Church. The amount of uniforms being recyled was quite amazing so thank you to the community who donated. The hall looked like a rainbow of red, green and blue! everyone was welcome and there was no charge for any of the pieces.

Marion and Diane

Hopefully there will be another uniform bank next summer so everyone can benefit, recycle and maybe save a few pence on school uniform

Dry weather

August 6, 2018by BethNo Comments

its be very dry recently as we all know and now the reserviour is realy showing the consquences of this heat wave.

lots of intresting banks are appearing from the water line along with quite a few of the old reservoir rocks that were thrown in. Please remind your young people that even though the water level is low, the reservoir is sill not a safe place to swim, this morning we saw a group of pre teens swimming with no adult supervision.

The Defibrillator is here!

July 6, 2018by Beth1 Comment

Last night some of the local residents of West Ardsley gathered at the Hare and Hounds public house for the official opening of the new village defibrillator. Cllr Renshaw

Cllr Renshaw thanks Cody for all her hard work

was in attendance and thanked Cody Hartley for all her hard work as she continues to raise funds and awareness for defibrillators in the local area, the next one we have been told is soon to be installed in Thorpe.

A very big thank you to Mick Sykes of MJS electrical who fitted the system free of charge, true community spirit thanks Mick!

Thank you Mick for installing it

And a huge thank you to Jackie from the Hare and hounds for welcoming everyone with drinks and nibbles for the event, not to mention of course all the work she has put in to making sure the defibrillator was acquired and housed.

if its every needed ring 999 and the ambulance service will explain how to access it and use it, there will be some training sessions coming up on the 14th and 15th July 2018, details to follow shortly

Here is hoping that we never have to use it!

Jackie, Camille and Cody

Be Safe this Summer at the Reservoir

June 27, 2018by BethNo Comments

It has been very warm the last few days and understandably people have wanted to cool off.

Please DO NOT swim in Ardsley Reservoir, it may look calm and still from the surface but the water is cold and there are under currents.  Every year young people and adults drown swimming in lakes, reservoirs and rivers during the summer months.

There are strong under currents at the Reservoir

There is plenty of evidence that shows that young people are swimming in the reservoir this week, we have lost count of the number of pants and socks we have found, we have even found some very nice towels! I am sure that some parents must be wondering were all their kids undies are going.

Please watch this video, it is upsetting but it could save a live.   Reservoir safety film – one last breath

The reservoir is also used for drinking water.

Please be safe this summer, have a water fight or eat a lolly instead!
